The restoration of a brick residence, built in the 1950s, was possible due to the fact that the outer side of the wall was not damaged by the water! The basement of the ground floor that was intended for the domesticated animals, would be turned into a living room and a kitchen with a WC, while the first floor would be divided into three bedrooms and one with a bathroom. For the ground floor bathroom, an independent bearing structure, able to hold the load coming from the bathroom of the first floor, has been created. The owners wished to maintain the traditional quality of the premises, while also adding a modern touch to it. Another request of the owners was to heighten the wooden ceiling of the ground floor, which was impossible to do, since in such constructions, the wooden beams go through the brick walls and are attached to transverse wooden bindings in order to ensure the structural integrity of the building. The solution given was to lower the level of the ground floor in order to make it viable, and at the same time, to have a new access to the covered porch. Finally, the high efficiency fireplace, in conjunction with a channel grid, resolve the issue of heating the whole residence.
Η αναπαλαίωση μιας πλίνθινης κατοικίας, κτισμένης τη δεκαετία του πενήντα, ήταν εφικτή από τη στιγμή που η εξωτερική πλευρά της τοιχοποιίας δεν είχε προσβληθεί από το νερό! Το κατώι του ισογείου που προοριζόταν για τα ζώα, θα μετατρεπόταν σε σαλόνι και κουζίνα με ένα WC, ενώ ο πρώτος όροφος θα χωριζόταν σε τρία υπνοδωμάτια και ένα με μπάνιο. Για το μπάνιο του ισογείου δημιουργείται μια ανεξάρτητη φέρουσα κατασκευή σε θέση να κρατήσει τα φορτία που προκύπτουν από το μπάνιο του ορόφου. Οι ιδιοκτήτες ήθελαν τόσο να διατηρήσουν τον παραδοσιακό χαρακτήρα της κατοικίας όσο να δώσουν και μια σύγχρονη πινελιά στο χώρο. Μια ακόμα απαίτηση των ιδιοκτητών ήταν να υπερυψωθεί το ξύλινο ταβάνι του ισογείου, πράγμα όμως αδύνατο, αφού σε αυτού του είδους τις κατασκευές, τα δοκάρια εισέρχονται στον πλίνθινο τοίχο και δένονται με εγκάρσιες ξύλινες ζώνες ώστε να εξασφαλίζουν την στατική επάρκεια του κτιρίου. Λύση δόθηκε με τη βύθιση της στάθμης του ισογείου ώστε να γίνει βιώσιμο αλλά και να επιτευχθεί η νέα πρόσβαση προς τη σκεπαστή βεράντα. Τέλος το ενεργειακό τζάκι σε συνδυασμό με ένα δίκτυο καναλιών λύνουν το πρόβλημα της θέρμανσης όλης της κατοικίας.
